JEC Nutrition's H57 Hoodia to become first New Jersey Corporation to Fully Fund Football Scholarship for a New Jersey High School Student to Play at Storied Rutgers University
Nutley, New Jersey- March 16, 2007--H57 Hoodia and Rutgers: The State University of New Jersey announced today that JEC Nutrition, H57 Hoodia's parent company, has committed to providing a full Scholarship for 5 years for a New Jersey High School Football player to play football at Rutgers.
H57 President and CEO Kelly Lockwood, a New Jersey Native with his headquarters based in Nutley said, "I'm proud to be the first NJ Company to be taking steps to offer this kind of scholarship to keep New Jersey's amazing football talent home. I guess I now have something in common with Coach Schiano," Lockwood joked, "..I've been a football fan for as long as I can remember and I am just so impressed with Coach's ability to keep these kids focused and put out such a quality team, you don't get much better than what the team accomplished in 2006. To be a born and bred 'Jersey Guy' and know that I am going to be a permanent part of that tradition is very humbling."
"I am thrilled that JEC Nutrition has come forward to fully fund a football scholarship for a student-athlete from New Jersey," said Rutgers Director of Athletics Bob Mulcahy. "As life-long residents of New Jersey, both (CEO & President) Kelly Lockwood and I are excited about the acclaim that the success of the Rutgers football team has brought us, specifically to the university, and to the state overall. We are hopeful that this generous gift will inspire other New Jersey-based companies to support our great state university."
Rutgers was one of only 14 teams in the nation to record 11 or more victories during the 2006 season. The 11 wins tied a single-season record for the Scarlet Knights and enabled them to become only the fifth team in Big East Conference history to reach that figure in a given year. The team was ranked No. 12 in both the Associated Press Top 25 and the USA Today/Coaches Top 25 polls. The final No. 12 ranking is highest in the university's history, eclipsing its No. 15 standing in the final Associated Press poll in 1961.
This is not the first time H57 Hoodia has shown their allegiance and their support of Rutgers Football. In 2006, H57 Hoodia ran the #70 Car in the NASCAR Busch Series, during the NASCAR Busch Series Ford 300 in Homestead, Florida this past November, H57 had a "Go Rutgers" decal on the back of their car. "Our commitment to Rutgers, this state, and the youth here in New Jersey is a real one, what better way to show it than by providing one of New Jersey's best with a college education to a University like Rutgers," Lockwood added.
